Mike Ellis

Mike was drafted in May of 1942. He joined the 540th combat engineers medical detachment. He then trained as part of an amphibious assault group. His group landed in Morocco at the beginning of the Africa Campaign. After Africa, his group was sent on to Sicily and then to the invasion of Italy and the Anzio operation. From Italy, Mike's group sent to a landing operation in Southern France. After the push through France, they crossed the Rhine into Germany. While flying home from Europe they got a report of Japan's surrender. Mike participated in a total of 5 major operations during WWII. He was discharged in August of 1945.
